XPEL ULTIMATE Paint Protection Film utilizes a specialized polymer in its clear coat. This polymer maintains fluidity even after curing, allowing the clear coat to naturally redistribute itself when the surface is disturbed.

The self-healing properties are effective for surface scratches and common swirl marks that occur during routine car washing. However, scratches that penetrate through the film's clear coat cannot be healed.

The healing duration depends on the scratch severity and ambient temperature. Minor scratches typically heal within an hour at room temperature (72°F). Warmer climates accelerate this process. Healing can be expedited by applying hot water to the affected area.

The self-healing capability of the clear coat is unlimited, provided the clear coat layer remains intact. It can repeatedly heal itself as long as it is not penetrated.

With proper care and maintenance, including regular washing and waxing, the clear coat can maintain its effectiveness indefinitely.

Sealants such as Opticoat and cQuartz are compatible with our ULTIMATE paint protection film. They do not damage the film or interfere with its self-healing properties.
